Praise Team Vocal Auditions 2008

 Auditions – July 12th, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM                   Preparation sessions –   July 3rd, 6:00 – 6:30 PM

July 13th, 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM                                                                                          July 10th, 6:00 – 6:30 PM

Purpose

The purpose of the audition is to expand the praise ministry at Crossroads by creating more praiseministry opportunities, as well as establishing well balanced, confident praise teams, for both Sunday mornings and special events during the week. It will also serve as an opportunity to get involved in the formation of the contemporary choir and helping to find future praise leaders that will train and learn how to fill in for Jim when he is absent.

EVERYONE that auditions will be accepted into the praise team in some capacity!

While there are limited spaces for the Sunday morning praise team, there is unlimited opportunity through the contemporary choir as well as other ministries such as Alpha, Celebrate Recovery, Healing Services, community events, etc. We hope to bring in anyone that is interested in being a part of music at Crossroads and get them plugged into a Praise team. Regardless of your time, talents or confidence level, you will have equal opportunity to serve at whatever level of commitment you have available, whether it be monthly or once a year. Consider becoming a part of our growing praise team ministry.

Audition Process

The Auditions will take place on the sanctuary stage and you will sing into a microphone. The auditions will be closed to the public and will be handled by Jim, Will and an accompanist (if needed). The audition will be two parts.

Sing a prepared section of a song. Choose any contemporary song that you are comfortable with and sing a verse and chorus of it. You can use music accompaniment or sing a cappella (no music), its up to you. Note - If you bring in a CD accompaniment, please make sure there aren’t voices singing the melody on it. If you don’t feel comfortable preparing anything, you can sing something easy like "My Country Tis of Thee" or even "Jesus Loves Me". We just want to hear your voice.

If you are auditioning for a Praise team placement, you need to sing harmony for the audition.  We have recorded Jim Bayless singing the melody of "Open the Eyes of My Heart".  You will have to sing along with the recording in harmony. This is the part of the audition that will be taught at the prep sessions. If you cannot attend the prep sessions, let Will know and he will set up a time to work with you individually.

Click here to download the recording of "Open the Eyes of My Heart" and start practicing the Harmonies.

There MAY be a call back of sorts where we will need to hear certain groups of singers together singing in harmony, in order to find the most balanced groups. Those will be announced if needed, after the auditions.

What am I auditioning for?

Essentially, there are many positions we are looking for in these auditions.

  1. Praise Leader – We are continually looking for the right people that are capable of leading worship on Sunday morning and through special services and events throughout the week. We are looking for the strongest musicians to be mentored into worship leading as Praise Leaders. They would have the opportunity to work with their own praise teams of musicians for ministries such as Alpha, Celebrate Recovery, special weekly services and possibly future ministries such as a satellite church, etc. They would also serve to fill in for Jim on Sundays when he is not available.
  2. Contemporary Choir - We are hoping to create a larger contemporary choir that wil sing at certain times throughout the year.  They will NOT meet all year and teh schedule and time commitment will be based on the general availability of the group once it is created.  They will sing for special services like Easter and Christmas, and IF there is enough interest they might be a permanent part of the praise and worship rotation once a month.  This is a great group to learn the basics of contemporary praise music including harmony and solo singing.  This is a great way to prepare yoursef to lead worship if you have little experience up to this point.
  3. Praise Team - We are hoping to create balanced Praise teams to accompany the Praise Band on Sunday mornings.  Note - You will have to sing both the prepared song and the harmony activity in order to be a part.
  4. Soloist - We would like to have a pool of singers capable of singing solos throughout the year.  I would like to fill up all three of our Sunday morning services as well as special weekly events with both soloist and ensemble musicians.  If you've never had the opportunity to show what you're capable of, this is the way to get involved and show us what you can do.  Note - You will ONLY have to sing the prepared song if you want to be a soloist.

Worship services at Crossroads start with those people that put forth the time to be servants of God. One of the greatest ways to worship him is through service towards others. We find that incredibly important on Sunday mornings as we disciple to the congregations members as well as to first times visitors to our Church. In every single Church service, there are over thirty people involved in making it an effective event for worship. We are looking for people with the heart for service and the desire to use the gifts God has given them. If you are interested in any of the following worship service activities, check all of those appropriate and we will contact you to get you plugged in. Even if you want to try something you have never done before, we are glad to mentor you into a new position and help you become more comfortable over time.
